On 1811 started on Uruguay, the revolution against Spain Colonial regimen, so several coins were issued to celebrate the anniversary. José Gervasio Artigas was the main leader of the Revolution, and is considered the most important hero of the country.Only 1 drawing was made in presence of Artigas, when he was 82 years old; therefore other artists only could think of the real aspect of Artigas; the drawings made using coal technique by Juan Manuel Blanes is considered the most accurate image, and used on coins.
