Comment
Coins and Species is a collection of coins made of pure silver (law 0.999). This collection consists of 10 coins with motifs of animals in danger of extinction in Mexico and an album to collect them. It is a limited edition and part of the resources raised from its sale will be used for conservation programs for species and their habitats. The river otter, also known in Mexico as "water dog", is a friendly mammal that belongs to the mustelidae family, which also includes, among others, skunks, badgers and weasels. The otter is an animal with semi-aquatic habits, since it spends much of the day swimming or diving in rivers, lakes and lagoons, mainly near the coasts, although there are populations that live in the great rivers and lakes of some mountains. In these places they find most of their food (mainly fish, crabs and frogs) and shelter when there is danger.
Interesting fact
The 5 Pesos (Nutria de Rio) 2000 coin from Mexico is a unique and interesting coin due to its design. The coin features a nutria, also known as a river rat, on the obverse (front side), while the reverse side features the national coat of arms of Mexico. The coin's designer, Mexican artist José Luis Ramírez, chose the nutria as the main motif to highlight the importance of conservation and protecting Mexico's natural resources. The coin's silver composition and detailed design make it a popular collector's item, and its unique theme sets it apart from other coins.
