Ukraine’s state symbols reflect Ukraine’s history, reminding Ukrainians of the glory of their ancestors, and inspiring them to new feats and achievements. State symbols are an important attribute of a modern state, representing its sovereignty. For Ukraine, these are the Coat of Arms of Ukraine, the National Flag of Ukraine, and the National Anthem of Ukraine.

The Coat of Arms of Ukraine is a trident (also known as the Tryzub). The Tryzub – a symbol of the Kyiv State of Volodymyr the Great – has existed for many centuries. The Tryzub was first mentioned in chronicles as the insignia of Grand Prince Volodymyr the Great in 10th century. The Tryzub was engraved on silver and gold coins called zlatnyks and sriblianyks. As the Tryzub is present on artefacts as old as the 1st century A.D. that are found on Ukrainian land, there are numerous interpretations of what it means: a Norman falcon, a stylized flower (or a three-branched candlestick), a schematic representation of the Ukrainian word "воля," which stands for "freedom," a symbol of power over three realms (the celestial, the earthly, and the infernal), and more.

Set of 3 coins

NOTE: Initially announced mintage was 100 000 coins (of each coin in set of 3 coins), actually were minted only 75 000.

Interesting fact

The Nickel brass (German silver) material used to make this coin is an alloy of copper, nickel, and zinc. It's known for its durability and resistance to corrosion, making it a popular choice for coins that are meant to last for a long time.
