Comment

The Tower of Hercules is located on a hill, at the entrance of the port of A Coruña. It was built by the Romans at the end of the 1st century AD. It has a height of 55 meters, of which 34 meters correspond to the part of the lighthouse built by the Romans, and 21 meters to the restoration made in the eighteenth century by the architect and Lieutenant of Marina Eustaquio Giannini. It is the oldest lighthouse in the world in operation and is the symbol of the city of A Coruña. It was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO on June 27, 2009.

Interesting fact

The 5 Euro Silver Coin (La Coruña) 2011 from Spain features a unique design, showcasing the Tower of Hercules, a historic lighthouse located in the city of A Coruña. This coin's design is particularly interesting because it incorporates a colorful, stylized representation of the lighthouse, surrounded by a detailed, realistic depiction of the surrounding coastline. This contrast between the abstract and realistic elements creates a visually striking image that sets this coin apart from other coins in the series.
