Comment

The Basilica del Pilar, in Zaragoza, is dedicated to the Virgen del Pilar, Patroness of Zaragoza and Aragon. It is an impressive Marian shrine visited by thousands of pilgrims from all over the world. The monumental building, which rises on the banks of the Ebro River, went through a long construction process that lasted for several centuries. In this process, the intervention of the architect Ventura Rodríguez, who also designed the Chapel of the Virgin, was decisive. The temple conserves in its interior numerous works of art, like the Altarpiece, the Greater Chorus, the Organ, or the frescoes of Goya and Bayeu.

Interesting fact

The coin's reverse side features an image of the Basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar, a famous landmark in Zaragoza, while the obverse side bears the portrait of King Juan Carlos I. This coin was minted in 2011 as a non-circulating coin, meaning it was not intended for general circulation but rather as a collector's item. It's a great piece for numismatists and collectors interested in Spanish history and culture.
