Date of issue: 07 DEC 2000The snow leopard (Uncia uncia Schreber) inhabits the Primorsky Territory in the Far East. His body and tail reach 130 cm and 105 cm in length accordingly. The snow leopard is under the threat of disappearance owing to the food reducing and to catching him for zoos (it also breeds in the need). The snow leopard is entered into the Red Data Book of the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources.
Interesting fact
The Snow Leopard coin was designed by Russian artist, E.V. Kramer, and features a beautiful depiction of a snow leopard on the obverse side, while the reverse side features the Russian coat of arms. The coin was minted in 2000 as part of a series of non-circulating coins celebrating endangered species. It's made of silver (.900) and weighs 34.88 grams.
