Date of issue: 18 OCT 1996Cruisers appeared as a class of ships in the 1860s and the first aircraft-carrier was built during the First World War. Deck aircraft and helicopters are the main striking force of these surface warships.
Interesting fact
The aircraft carrier "Admiral Kuznetsov" featured on the coin was the only aircraft carrier built by the Soviet Union and was launched in 1988. It was designed to carry up to 30 aircraft and was equipped with a ski-jump style deck for takeoff. The ship was never fully completed and was eventually sold for scrap in 2017.
