The Amur tiger is now found in the Maritime Territory of the Far East, while in the past its permanent habitat extended as far as the left bank of the River Amur. It is entered into the Red Book of the International Union for the Protection of Nature and Natural Resources. Hunting the Amur tiger has been banned in Russia since 1947.

Interesting fact

The Amur Tiger coin's design features an image of a tiger's head, with the inscription "Амурский тигр" (Amur Tiger) above it and the year "1996" below. The reverse side of the coin depicts the coat of arms of Russia and the denomination "3 РУБЛЯ" (3 Roubles).
