In 1899 it made its first voyage to the Arctic, in 1918 it took part in the winter expedition of the Baltic fleet, in 1938 it participated in the evacuation of the Polar station Severny Polyus-1 and in 1941-1945 it led ships through the ice in the Baltic Sea.
