Date of issue: 07 DEC 2000The snow leopard (Uncia uncia Schreber) inhabits the Primorsky Territory in the Far East. His body and tail reach 130 cm and 105 cm in length accordingly. The snow leopard is under the threat of disappearance owing to the food reducing and to catching him for zoos (it also breeds in the need). The snow leopard is entered into the Red Data Book of the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources.

The Snow Leopard coin's design features a majestic snow leopard standing on a rocky outcrop, with the beautiful landscape of the Russian mountains in the background.
