Date of issue: 28 MAR 2001The Ballet «Romeo and Juliet» was produced in 1940. The Prokofiev’s music achieved for the first time in the Ballet’s history the standard of Shakespeare’s tragedy.
Interesting fact
The Bolshoi Theater coin was designed by artist A. V. Bakhrushin and features a depiction of the iconic Moscow theater on one side, and a portrait of Russian composer Mikhail Glinka on the other. The coin was issued in 2001 to commemorate the 200th anniversary of Glinka's birth.
