Coloured coin and stamp set - Les Alouettes de Montréal (2012)

The rich history of the Montreal Alouettes* and their seven Grey Cup® victories, won in eighteen appearances, is an integral part of the celebrations surrounding the 100th edition of the Grey Cup. The most memorable of these victories, dubbed the Ice Bowl, has been immortalized on the commemorative stamp. In 1977, at Montreal's Olympic Stadium, the 65th Grey Cup final was played on an icy field, causing a great deal of trouble for both teams. Alouettes defensive back Tony Proudfoot came up with the idea of placing staples under his shoes and those of his team-mates. The extra grip gave Montreal a considerable advantage, as the team crushed the Edmonton Eskimos 41-6.

The commemorative 25-cent coin celebrates this remarkable feat, as well as decades of unforgettable sporting moments.

If you, or someone you know, is a Montreal Alouettes fan, this coin and stamp set is the perfect gift!
