Coloured coin and stamp set - Calgary Stampeders (2012)The traditions associated with Grey Cup® games and the 100th Grey Cup celebrations owe much to the Calgary Stampeders* and their fans. Indeed, in 1948, jubilant Calgarians literally invaded Toronto to watch the championship game and celebrated throughout the city, including flipping pancakes on the steps of City Hall and riding horses through the lobby of the prestigious Royal York Hotel. Calgary won 12-7 over Ottawa, capping a season of 12 wins and no losses.
The commemorative stamp marks the year in which the fun initiatives of Calgary fans truly transformed the Grey Cup into a national cultural event. The 25-cent commemorative coin also salutes the Stampeders' six victories in twelve Grey Cup appearances.
