Date of issue: 21 APR 1995

Marshal Georgy Zhukov (1896-1974), a Soviet military commander, fought in the First and Second World Wars. From 1941 to 1945 he was Chief of the General Staff, First Deputy Minister of Defence and Deputy Supreme Commander-in-Chief. On May 8, 1945, he accepted on behalf of the Supreme Commander the surrender of Nazi German troops at Karlshorst, a suburb of Berlin.
