Date of issue: 03 DEC 1996Fedor Mikhailowich Dostoyevsky (1821-1881) - a Russian writer and essayist. In 1877 he was elected a corresponding member of the St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences. In his works ("The Possessed", "The Karamazov Brothers", "Crime and Punishment", "The Idiot", "A Raw Youth", "Notes from the Dead House", "Poor Folk", "The Double", "The Writer's Diary" and other) Dostoyevsky analysed the social and moral crisis in Russia, depicted with profound insight the tragic existence of a "small" man and highly individual characters and attempted to find a way to social and personal harmony.

The interesting fact about this coin is that it was minted to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the birth of Russian novelist and philosopher, Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoevsky, who is considered one of the greatest writers of all time.
