The first of three coins issued to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the death of William Shakespeare, by honouring his work. This coin represents the comedies, the other coins in the series represent the histories and the tragedies. Issued as part of the Annual Gold Coin Set for 2016 (82 sales) as well as individually (152 sales), the design was also issued in copper-nickel, silver proof and silver piedfort.©The Royal Mint, 2016
Interesting fact
One interesting fact about this coin is that it features a unique design depicting Shakespeare's comedies, such as "A Midsummer Night's Dream" and "Twelfth Night", on the reverse side, which was created by the artist John Bergdahl.
