The commemorative coin is dedicated to the 130th anniversary of birth of Volodymyr M. Chekhivskyi (1876/ 1937), a Ukrainian statesman and political figure. Volodymyr Chekhivskyi was an active participant of the public life of the Odesa City; in 1917 he became a member of the Ukrainian Central Rada. Since 26.12.1918 till 11.02.1919 he headed the Council of Ministers and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the UPR (Ukrainian People's Republic). On his initiative on 01.01.1919 the Government of the UPR proclaimed the autocephaly of the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church. In 1929 a criminal case was framed up against Chekhivskyi as a result whereof he was arrested and executed by shooting on the isle of Solovki.Interesting fact
