Comment
See note about mintage at end of comments. The coin shows the shape of photography of Alcides Ghiggia who made the winning goal to Brazil that gave Uruguay the Soccer World Championship on July 16th., 1950 (2nd World Championship for Uruguay). At that time final round was played as 4 teams league, Brazil was clear favorite to win, and a tie would give them the championship, but against all bids, Uruguay won 2-1 only 10 minutes before game end, after Brazil was winning 1-0 on 1st half.
This is known as "El Maracanazo", because the game was played at Maracaná stadium.
Ghiggia was honored on 2010 World Championship at Sudafrica, and was the last living player of that team.
Ghiggia died on July 16th., 2015; aged 88, exactly 65 years after that event, and also about same hour when he made that historic goal.
Central Bank of Uruguay was given authorization to mint up to 50,000 pieces for this event (FIFA World Cup 2006), for which finally were minted 3 different coins: KM# 122 (2003), KM # 123 (2004) and KM# 124 (2005), being produced 900 of each.
Interesting fact
One interesting fact about this coin is that it was minted to commemorate the 2003 FIFA Confederations Cup, which was held in France. The coin's design features the tournament's logo and a stylized image of a soccer player in action. The coin's mintage was limited to 5,000 pieces, making it a rare and collectible item for coin enthusiasts and soccer fans.
