PIT-CNT is the union of the main syndicalist organizations in Uruguay. On 09/28-10/01/1966, a congress was held to group most syndicates, creating CNT (Convención Nacional de Trabajadores= National Workers' Convention). Later, on 1984, is created PIT (Plenario Intersindical de Trabajadores=Intersindical Plenary of Workers), forming PIT-CNT organization.Born on 1916, José D'Elia (aka "Pepe") was a very active syndicalist, working on commerce sector, was member of FUECI, that grouped commerce and industry syndicates, and was founder of the UGT (Unión General de Trabajadores=General Workers' Union) on 1942, where was elected General Prosecretary.
On 1945 was founder of the World Syndicalist Federation, as delegate from Uruguay.
Was president of CNT, and Secretary of PIT-CNT, after his resign to that position, was named Honorary President.
