Comment

"La Cumparsita" is a tango written by Gerardo Matos Rodriguez (music), later lyrics were added by Felipe Contursi and Enrique Pedro Maroni.

Name comes as slang diminutive of "Comparsa" (as carnival groups are known), and is considered one of the most known and representative tango song.

It was first played without lyrics on 1917 at "La Giralda" bar. Currently the Museum of Tango is placed at the spot.

This song became really popular and known when Felipe Contursi added the lyrics.

NOTE: in spite this coin is silver, and has a small mintage, is commemorative circulating. The Central Bank of Uruguay released them to circulation, and then demonetized the coins.
