Comment
The "Milagro de los Andes" (Andean Miracle) is the name given to the issue occurred on October 12th., 1972 to December 22nd., 1972.
A Fairchild plane form the Uruguayan Airforce travelled from Montevideo to Santiago de Chile, carrying the rugby team "Old Christians", with other related people, like coaches, assistants and some player's relatives; including airplane crew a total of 45 people. Owing to bad climatic conditions, got lost when flying over Andean chain, and crashed. 32 people survived the accident, but 16 more died in the following days, owing to the wounds received, and a snow flow some days later. Finally 16 people survived, and were rescued after 72 days facing very bad climatic conditions, very low temperature, and lack of food and water.
The 45 rectangles in obverse represent the people involved, 29 with circle as coffins, and the rest 16 the survivors.
The design on reverse resembles the mountains where the plane fell.
