Interesting fact
The Pattern 1 Yuan coin was designed by the famous Chinese artist, Xu Beihong, who was also a renowned painter and calligrapher. He was commissioned by the National Government to design the coin in 1927, and his design features a portrait of Sun Yat-sen, the founder of the Republic of China, on the obverse side, and a scene of the founding of the Republic on the reverse side. The coin was minted in copper and was intended to be used as a circulating coin, but it was never officially released due to political instability and economic turmoil at the time. As a result, only a small number of pattern coins were produced, making them highly sought after by collectors today.
