Similar design to the pre-decimal Maundy issues but with the value updated to decimal pence.During the course of her reign, Queen Elizabeth II held the Royal Maundy service at every cathedral in the country, with the Cathedral Church of Saint Martin, Leicester completing the list in 2017.
The 2020 and 2021 ceremonies were cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic but Maundy coinage was still minted and the purses were instead blessed at the Chapel Royal, St James’s Palace, before being posted to recipients alongside a letter from Her Majesty.
Proof set issues:
2000 13,180 pieces issued as part of 13-coin Millennium silver collections;
2006 6,394 pieces issued as part of 13-coin 80th Birthday silver collections.
