The bird Phoenix at the obverse represents the rebirth of Greece while the word "αωκα" is referring to the year 1821 (the year of the Greek revolution).

Interesting fact

The 1830 Greek Lepton coin was designed by the famous French engraver and medalist, Jean-Baptiste Mercier. Mercier was known for his work on various coins and medals throughout Europe, and his design for the Lepton coin features an image of a young woman representing Greece, surrounded by an olive wreath and the inscription "ΕΛΛΑΣ" (ELLAS), which means "Greece" in Greek. This design was meant to symbolize the newly-established independence of Greece from the Ottoman Empire, and it has become a recognizable symbol of Greek national identity.
