Comment

The creation of the coin was decided by the Fourth National Assembly which took place at Argos. The bird Phoenix at the obverse represents the rebirth of Greece while the word "αωκα" is referring to the year 1821 (the year of the Greek revolution).

Interesting fact

The 1 Lepton coin was minted during the reign of King Otto of Greece, who was a Bavarian prince that was appointed as the first king of Greece in 1832. The coin was part of the first decimal currency system introduced in Greece, replacing the old Ottoman currency. The design of the coin features the image of a phoenix rising from the ashes, symbolizing the rebirth of Greece as an independent nation.
