Comment

The bird Phoenix at the obverse represents the rebirth of Greece while the word "αωκα" is referring to the year 1821 (the year of the Greek revolution). The difference between this coin and the other two "1 Lepton" coins (km#1 and km#5) is that the Phoenix is different and without circle.

Interesting fact

The 1831 Greek Lepton coin was designed by the famous French engraver and medalist, Jean-Baptiste Mercier. Mercier was known for his work on various coins and medals for different countries, and his design for the Greek Lepton coin features an image of a young woman representing Greece, surrounded by an olive wreath and the inscription "ΕΛΛΑΣ" (ELLAS), which means "Greece" in Greek. This design was used for several years and became a symbol of Greek national identity.
