One interesting fact about the Pattern 1 Kuna (Pattern; Type 2, silver) 1941 from Independent State of Croatia (Yugoslavia) is that it was designed by the Croatian artist, Ivan Meštrović. Meštrović was a renowned sculptor and painter who was commissioned by the Ustaše regime to create the design for the coin. The coin features a stylized image of a kuna, a small mammal native to Croatia, on one side, and the Ustaše symbol, a crooked sword, on the other. The coin was minted in 1941, during the brief existence of the Independent State of Croatia, a fascist regime that was established during World War II. Despite its short lifespan, the coin remains a significant piece of Croatian numismatic history.
