A Sterling Silver version of the coin was also released (See link)

Interesting fact

The 1985 New Zealand $1 coin featuring Elizabeth II (2nd portrait; Black Stilt) is interesting because it was the first coin to feature a non-human subject on the obverse (front) side, breaking the tradition of featuring the monarch's portrait. The coin's reverse (back) side features the Black Stilt, a rare and endangered bird species native to New Zealand. This design choice was meant to raise awareness about the country's unique wildlife and promote conservation efforts.
