Comment

The Dromedaris is one of the three ships which brought Jan van Riebeeck and his small group of settlers to South Africa from Holland in 1652 in order to establish a refreshment station on behalf of the Dutch East India Company.

Interesting fact

One interesting fact about the 1948-1950 South African ½ Penny coin is that it features a unique design element - the portrait of King George VI has a small crown on top of the crown, which is not usually seen on coins featuring the king's image. This small crown is known as a "sextus rex" or "sixth king" and was added to indicate that George VI was the sixth king of the United Kingdom since the accession of the House of Windsor in 1917. This design detail sets the coin apart from other coins featuring the king's image and makes it a distinctive and interesting collector's item.
