Comment

The Dromedaris is one of the three vessels which brought Jan van Riebeeck and his small group of people to South Africa from Holland in 1652 in order to establish a refreshment station on behalf of the Dutch East India Company.

Interesting fact

The ½ Penny coin from South Africa was minted during a time of great economic hardship in the country. The coin was introduced in 1928, and its low denomination was intended to make it accessible to the masses, particularly during a time of high unemployment and poverty. Despite its low value, the coin was made of a durable bronze alloy, which helped to increase its lifespan and make it a reliable means of exchange. This coin is a testament to the resilience and resourcefulness of the South African people during a difficult period in their history.
