Interesting fact

The obverse (front) side of the coin features a portrait of the Greek goddess Athena, while the reverse (back) side features a depiction of a griffin, a mythical creature with the body of a lion and the head and wings of an eagle. This combination of Athena and the griffin symbolizes the protection and strength that the city of Abdera sought to convey through the issuance of this coin.
