Interesting fact

The obverse (front) side of the coin features a portrait of the Greek goddess Athena, while the reverse (back) side depicts a Griffin, a mythical creature with the body of a lion and the head and wings of an eagle. This symbolism represents the protection and strength that Athena offers to the city of Thasos, as well as the rich natural resources of the island.
