Interesting fact
The obverse side of the coin features a portrait of the Greek goddess Athena, while the reverse side depicts a Griffin, a mythical creature with the body of a lion and the head and wings of an eagle. This symbolism represents the dual nature of the island's rulers, who were both strong and wise, like Athena, and fierce and powerful, like the Griffin.
