Interesting fact
The Szeląg litewski was the first coin to feature the image of a Polish king, Jan II Kazimierz Waza, on one side and the coat of arms of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth on the other. This design was a departure from the traditional design of coins in the region, which typically featured religious symbols or images of saints. The introduction of this coin marked a shift towards more secular imagery on currency and reflected the growing influence of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth in the region.
