Magistracy of Epaminondas.

This coin is signed by Thebes's greatest statesman and general, Epaminondas (c. 419/411-362 BC). He was responsible for the massive defeat of Sparta at the Battle of Leuctra in 371, as well as the later Spartan defeat at Mantinea in 362.

Interesting fact

The Stater coin of Epaminondas from Thebes (Boeotia) was minted during a time of great political and military change in ancient Greece. The coin's design features the profile of Epaminondas, a prominent Theban statesman and military leader who played a key role in the expulsion of the Spartans from Thebes in 379 BC. The coin's silver content and weight of 12.26 grams also reflect the high value placed on precious metals during this time period.
