Interesting fact
The Corinthian Stater was one of the first coins to feature a human portrait, which was a significant innovation in ancient coinage. The obverse of the coin features a portrait of a bearded man, believed to be a representation of the Greek god Poseidon, who was revered as the protector of the city of Corinth. This design choice was a departure from the more common use of animal motifs or abstract symbols on coins at the time, and it paved the way for the use of human portraits on coins in the ancient world.
