Interesting fact
The Abydos Stater is considered one of the earliest coins to feature a standardized weight and design, which was a significant innovation in ancient coinage. It was issued during the reign of King Alexander the Great and bears his name and image on one side, while the other side features the image of a goddess, possibly Athena or Artemis. This coin was used as a means of payment and exchange throughout the ancient Greek world and beyond, and its design and weight became the standard for other coins in the region.
