Comment

Anglo-Saxon Middle Period (c.780-973), Kings of Mercia (757-880), Beornwulf (823-825), Group II, East Anglia or London mints.

Beornwulf's short reign as King of Mercia saw the collapse of Mercia's supremacy over the other kingdoms of the Anglo-Saxon Heptarchy. Coins minted during Beornwulf's reign are very rare, with only around 25 known examples.

Interesting fact

The Beornwulf Penny, issued during the reign of King Beornwulf of Mercia (823-825), is considered one of the rarest and most valuable coins in the history of British numismatics. It's believed that only about 10 of these coins still exist today, making them highly sought after by collectors and historians.
