Comment
The mint is almost never visible on this variant. Although there is almost never a date visible either, it is likely that this type comes from later in Tahmasp I's reign, as many of those of his successor, Isma'il II, are of a similar length and shape. This variant was popular in the wider Indian Ocean world, with imitations in India and bent examples in the Maldives and Sri Lanka.Interesting fact
One interesting fact about the Larin - Tahmasp I (long variant) ND (1524-1576) coin from Iran is that it features a unique blend of Islamic and Persian designs on its obverse and reverse sides. The obverse side features the name of the mint and the date of minting in a cursive script, while the reverse side depicts a stylized lion and sun motif, which is a common symbol in Persian culture. This blend of designs reflects the rich cultural heritage of Iran during the Safavid dynasty, which ruled the country from 1501 to 1736.
