Day et al (MEC 12, p. 291 reckon that this is the later type of grosso. The weight is similar to that struck in the following reign, and design elements like the ornamentation of the polylobe differ from earlier grossi. It is known with several sigla (see date table), suggesting it was produced for a loger part of Philip's reign than the lighter early type. And, as it was known that one combination of sigla (n m) pertains to mint officials who were in place in 1427, it likely began on or before this year.
