Comment

Coin struck towards the end of the reign of Wenceslaus I, after 1378, at the Luxembourg mint.

Of the 122 pieces listed by Weiller, 51 come from the "A. 26" treasure discovered around 1962 in the Wiltz area. This treasure, in total 152 pieces, found in 1962 was split in two and quickly dispersed in the trade. Some of these parts have nevertheless been analyzed and identified beforehand, including the present type.

Hubert Frère & Marcel Thirion,

Interesting fact

One interesting fact about the Gros Blanc coin is that it was issued during the reign of Wenceslaus I, who was the first Duke of Luxembourg and a member of the House of Luxembourg. He ruled from 1353 to 1383 and was known for his military campaigns and diplomatic efforts, which helped to expand the Duchy of Luxembourg's territory and influence. The coin's design, featuring an image of Wenceslaus I, serves as a testament to his legacy and the significance of his rule in the history of Luxembourg.
