Comment
Called gouden schild met de adelaar in Dutch. The alloy for this coin started at 0.969 (Bruges mint), then 0.927 (Ghent mint) and finally 0.875 (Mechelen). There is no way to determine the mint from the features of the coin.
The "old" gouden schild / ecu with an eagle shield (and its subdivisions of 1/2 and 1/4) were minted between 1348 and 1357.
In 1373 they were replaced by a new gouden schild / ecu with a lion on the shield.
Interesting fact
One interesting fact about the Gold Écu "with Eagle" - Louis II de Male ND (1348-1357) from County of Flanders (Belgian States) is that it features a unique eagle design on the reverse side, which was a symbol of power and authority during the reign of Louis II de Male. The eagle was also a nod to the county's coat of arms, which featured an eagle as its central element. This design choice was a deliberate move by the county to assert its independence and sovereignty, and it sets the coin apart from other coins issued during the same period.
