Comment
Imitation of the gold shield of Philip VI of Valois (see link below).Imitations of the royal types were minted in Luxembourg by Master Boniface Annelier, who was appointed on September 18, 1337 for a four-year term, with instructions to "make all manners of gold and silver coins, white and black, as good and as souffisanz de pois et de loy as sunt et seront les monnoyes de Monsr. le roy de France" (Weiller p. 24).
Interesting fact
One interesting fact about the Gold Chaise coin is that it was issued during the reign of Jean the Blind, who was the Count of Luxembourg from 1337 to 1346. Despite being blind, Jean the Blind was known for his military prowess and political acumen, and he played a significant role in the politics of the Holy Roman Empire during his lifetime. The coin's design, which features a stylized image of Jean the Blind seated on a throne, is a testament to his influence and legacy.
