Comment

Very rare gold Florin, struck at the monetary mint of Luxembourg.
The new gros of John of Bavaria was counted at a higher rate than the former gros of Elisabeth Görlitz, this gold florin was worth 22 .

Weiller analyzed 3 copies with extreme weights of 3.33 g. and 3.47 g.
No varieties of legend listed for this type.

The board taken by Probst in the Prifix has an error in the reverse that he does not mention. The shield of Palatinate represents a lion on a burelated field. This error is due to the fact that Probst naively copied the plate of the Histoire monétaire du comté puis duché de Luxembourg et de ses fiefs (Monetary History of the County then Duchy of Luxembourg and its fiefs). Bernays and Vannerus had already pointed out this mistake in 1910.

Interesting fact

One interesting fact about the Standard circulation coin Florin - John II (1st type) ND (1419-1424) from Duchy of Luxembourg (Luxembourg) made of Gold weighing 3.39 g is that it was minted during the reign of John II, who was the first Duke of Luxembourg to issue coins in his own name. This coin is a rare and valuable example of early Luxembourgish coinage and is highly sought after by collectors.
