Comment
Rare esterlin, undated, struck at the Luxembourg City mint.A type imitating directly the Anglo-Saxon denarius (reigns of Edward I to Edward III), with the head crowned from the front, framed by long curls covering the ears and on the reverse a confined cross with 4 groups of 3 globules, dividing the legend. Often referred to as "lushbournes" or "lussenburgers".
Average weight of 27 pieces: 1.19 g. (Weiller, p. 30)
Variants of legends and punctuation:
- 10 for the obverse and
- 12 for the reverse (all catalogs combined)
The legend of the piece represented on this sheet seems unpublished:
Compared to the catalogs it would be a variant of the following numbers:
- L# 44-var Probst
reverse GEH instead of CEH
- W# 49 type var/d. Weiller
reverse identical to the n ° d.
- BV# 53-var Bernays & Vannerus
reverse 8 different points
More similarities with the variety mentioned by B&V (obv. 3 pts / rev. 2 pts)
