Comment

Esterlin among the most common of Jean the Blind (1309-1346), undated, struck at the Luxembourg City mint around 1320.

As with all Luxembourg coins, Jean the Blind is called King of Bohemia REX B. He took the title of count only on two esterlins (see L#57-1 and L#100-1) and the title of Poland on some esterlins struck until 1333.

With this esterlin begin the "lushbournes" for real, namely the products of a dishonest coinage, designed to mislead the public through the alteration of certain words and the skillful assembly of some other (Bernays & Vannerus, p. 112)

Average weight on 113 coins listed by Weiller: 1.12 g.
Max weight: 1.45 g.
