Comment

Little is known about Lucius Cestius except his coins issued during his praetor office in 43 BC.

It is supposed he would be from the gens Pobilia and that he would be the father of Gaius Cestius for whom was built the Pyramid of Cestius in Rome.

Interesting fact

One interesting fact about this coin is that it features a rare portrait of Gaius Norbanus Flaccus, a Roman politician and military leader, on one side, and Lucius Cestius, a Roman consul, on the other. This coin was minted during a time of political turmoil in Rome, just a few years before the assassination of Julius Caesar in 44 BC.
