Date of issue: 30 SEP 1999On October 1, 1949 the formation of the People's Republic of China has been proclaimed in Peking from the tribune above the Tiananmen Gate in the presence of 300000 inhabitants of the capital. On the next day, on October 2, 1949, Moscow was the first who had declared the recognition of the PRC and the readiness to establish diplomatic relations.

The interesting fact about this coin is that it was issued to commemorate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Russia and China, and it features an unique design that showcases the symbolism of both countries, such as the Russian bear and the Chinese dragon, on opposite sides of the coin.
