Date of issue: 18 MAR 1999Many manuscripts of A. S. Pushkin kept in the Pushkin's house in St. Petersburg, contain marginal drawings made by the poet: landscape sketches, characteristic types, personages of his works, real and imaginary woman's shapes and certainly self portraits of different periods of his life. The self portrait on the coin dates from 1827-1830.

The A.S. Pushkin 50 Rouble coin is a unique piece, as it features a portrait of the famous Russian poet and writer, Alexander Pushkin, on one side, and the Russian coat of arms on the other.
