Comment
In 1811, Uruguay began a revolution against the Spain Colonial regime. Several coins were issued to celebrate the anniversary of the revolt. Jose Gervasio Artigas was the main leader of the Revolution, and is considered the most important hero of the country.Only 1 drawing was made in presence of Artigas - when he was 82 years old; therefore, other artists could only imagine aspects of Artigas; the drawing (made using the coal technique by Juan Manuel Blanes) is considered the most accurate image, and is used on Uruguayan coins.

This issue was minted in Kremnica, Slovakia.
